As a result of damage caused by the flooding associated with Hurricane Katrina, the existing below ground sewer pump station was selected to be replaced with an above-grade facility that would be less prone to damage from catastrophic weather related events. ILSI Engineering, as a subconsultant to KHAFRA Engineering Consultants Inc., provided architectural, structural, and civil design services for the 1.2 MD replacement above-ground sewer pump station. These design services included development of construction documents, including engineered plans and specification and cost estimates. The new pump station was designed in compliance with the 2012 International Building Code and capable of withstanding winds up to 150 mph, and to have a 50-year life cycle. Also as part of the design, the existing wet well was to be reused and the design had to allow for continued operation for the existing pump station during construction. ILSI Engineering also provided construction management and inspection services during construction of the new pump station.
